Police: Car abandoned, occupants flee after hit and run accident in WVC

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Several people abandoned a vehicle after being involved in a hit and run accident in West Valley City early Saturday morning, according to police.

At approximately 4 a.m., a man driving east on 3100 South went to make a left turn onto 4000 West when a vehicle traveling west on 3100 South collided with the first car, according to West Valley City police.

Police are unsure who had the right-of-way.

As police continued to investigate, officers discovered the second car had been abandoned and witnesses saw several people get out of the car and flee after the accident.

Police say they found alcohol and marijuana inside the abandoned vehicle and its registered owner is a current prison inmate.

No serious injuries were reported.
