Investigators find human remains, man booked into jail 2 months after wife reported missing

RICHFIELD, Utah – Two months after a woman was reported missing, officials have announced they have booked the woman’s husband into jail after recovering human remains at a crime scene.

According to a press release from Richfield City police and the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, Melanie Layton Callison, 46, of Richfield was reported missing and had last been seen on September 11 by her physician.

The woman’s husband, 59-year-old Edward Callison of Richfield, told police the woman had gone to California, but authorities said the man made conflicting statements to family members and investigators.

Callison was interviewed by detectives Thursday, and he, “told detectives what had happened at the location of the crime scene,” according to the press release. Investigators went to the scene, where human remains believed to be those of Melanie Callison were located.

Edward Callison has been booked into the Sevier County Jail, and he faces charges that include aggravated murder, obstruction of justice and desecration of a body. Officials said they expect to file formal charges against Callison Friday.
