WEBER COUNTY, Utah – A young child was taken to a hospital in critical condition after a car crash Sunday.
Lt. Lane Findlay of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said a woman was driving along 4700 West in Marriott Slaterville in an SUV and then went to make a left turn onto 900 South, at which time the vehicle was struck by a northbound pickup truck.
A press release issued later Sunday stated the SUV had turned “directly in front of the truck. Unable to avoid the collision, the truck collided with the [SUV].”
Findlay said the child is 3.5 years old and was riding in the SUV on the passenger side of the vehicle, which is where the impact occurred. The child suffered critical injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Findlay said there was a child seat inside the vehicle but said it was not clear if the child was properly restrained.
The mother, a 20-year-old woman from Plain City, was shaken up in the crash and drover herself to a nearby hospital. There were no other injuries reported.
