WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- Holiday shopping is getting into full swing. But with the shopping comes car burglaries and stolen gifts.
West Valley City police spent Monday at Valley Fair Mall checking cars in the parking lot to see if the owners were taking the proper precautions to protect their property.
Police were looking for obvious mistakes that shoppers make, like leaving car doors unlocked and valuables in plain sight.
After examining the cars they left a piece of paper on the windshield that gave a pass or fail grade.
West Valley police are working in partnership with Valley Fair Mall to educate the shopping public, but this crime happens everywhere.
