SANDY, Utah — An 18-year-old man is recovering after being found stabbed several times in the stomach late Friday night, police said Saturday.

At approximately 11 p.m., Sandy police responded to a residential neighborhood in the area of 8800 South block of 220 East after receiving a 911 hangup call.

When officers arrived they found an 18-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to his stomach, said Sgt. Dean Carriger, spokesman for Sandy police.

The victim, identified as Santino Perea, was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery. He is now in stable condition and is expected to recover.

Witnesses to the incident have been uncooperative and police have not been able to get a statement from the victim at this time, Carriger said.

Carriger said the stabbing might be a gang related but it’s not confirmed at this point.
