SALT LAKE CITY – It’s official. Real Salt Lake center back Nat Borchers has been sent to Portland Timbers for allocation money.

RSL confirmed the news Monday; the amount of money was not disclosed.

According to realsaltlake.com, Borchers played seven seasons with 205 appearances, all starts.

He has had at least one goal every season since 2009 and is tied for second in appearances  in club history with Kyle  Beckerman, ranking just behind Nick Rimando.

“I know Nat didn’t want to leave but we simply couldn’t work out a way to protect him as part of the expansion process,” Real Salt Lake General Manager Garth Lagerwey said. “Understanding that staying was Nat’s first choice, we were able to at least give Nat the choice as to where to go.”

#RSL cannot thank @natborchers enough for his professionalism, on and off the field, for 7 seasons … We would not have the culture, the fan engagement, or our place in the community without his leadership through the years …
