`ANINI, Kaua`i — A Utah man has apparently drowned in waters off `Anini Beach on Kaua`i Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 3 p.m., police say the man was walking in shallow water near the channel when he was swept out by a rip current.
Water safety officers on Jet Ski arrived to the scene to find several Good Samaritans attempting to rescue the unresponsive man with paddle boards and a dive buoy.
Police say firefighters began CPR on shore before the man was transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Representatives from Life’s Bridges, a grief counseling service, are assisting the man’s family, police say.
This is the sixth drowning on Kaua`i this year.
