Suspects lead police on low-speed chase through WVC

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Two men led West Valley City police on a short, low-speed chase late Saturday night.

Officers made an initial stop for speeding, but the men fled in their car. The chase never reached speeds over 40 miles per hour and it ended just a few blocks away.

They ducked into the subdivision, and kind made a few loops around the subdivision trying to lose the officer in the subdivision. And then the vehicle started to smoking; either overheated or something so as they come around here they got a little wide and hit the bush and the tree right there.”

The airbags deployed and both men took off running, but were captured shortly after. Police found drugs in the car, and determined that it had been stolen in Salt Lake City.

Two Hispanic men, one 17 and the other 19, face charges of vehicle theft, evading police and drug possession.
