Events: Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. across Utah

Utah has a number of events in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday :

  • BYU is hosting a day of service with registration at the Wilkinson Center.
  • In Ogden, Weber State University’s week of service started with breakfast Monday to be followed by a freedom march. You can sign up for the march at the Marshall White Center.
  • Westminster College is holding a march through Sugar House. Marchers should arrive at 9:30 a.m. in front of Converse Hall.
  • The NAACP will hist the 31st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial luncheon at noon at the Little America hotel.
  • The University of Utah an MLK Week with activities honoring Dr. King through Thursday (are are free and open to the public) :
    • Monday 1/19 – Rally at 2:30 p.m., East High School Auditorium, 840 S. 1300 East, followed by a march at 3:30
    • Tuesday 1/20
      • Community panel discussion, “Restricted Rights: Militarization of Contemporary Policing,” noon to 1:00, Hinckley Institute of Politics
      • Film screening, “Freedom on My Mind,” 1994 documentary, 4-7 p.m., Olpin Student Union Building, Saltair Room
    • Wednesday 1/21 – Cultural Performance by Ernesto Yerena, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Olpin Student Union Building, West Ballroom
    • Thursday 1/22 – Keynote Address: “Do Black Lives Matter After All” by Imani Perry, noon-1:00, Olpin Student Union Building, Ballroom
