UTAH COUNTY – Police have booked a man into jail after nearly seven months of investigation, and authorities allege the man was seeking sexual interactions with someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.

Detectives with Utah County Special Victims Unit arrested 31-year-old Ryan Chad Sherry of Spanish Fork Wednesday night, and they said during the last seven months the man had been seeking sex with a teen girl. The special victims unit is affiliated with the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

A press release from Utah County Sheriff’s Office alleges Sherry sought out a 13-year-old girl and “described what he wanted to do with her.” During the investigation, officers determined the man believed he was communicating with a teen girl. They stated he, “initiated this communication, which was sexual in nature, and was clear in his intentions.”

Sherry allegedly arranged to meet a 13-year-old girl at a location in Provo, and when he arrived he was arrested by detectives. The man was cooperative during the arrest and booking process, according to the press release. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

Sherry was booked into the Utah County Jail on four second-degree felony charges: attempted rape of a child, attempted sodomy on a child, attempted aggravated sex abuse of a child, and enticing a minor over the Internet. The man’s bail has been set at $50,000 and is cash only.
