ROY, Utah — Two cars collided in an intersection after one vehicle ran a red light Friday night in Roy, and two people were transported by medical helicopter in critical condition and a third person was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
According to Roy police, the crash occurred around 8 p.m. in the intersection of 1900 West and Hinckley Drive when one vehicle ran a red light. An SUV and a truck were involved but it was not clear which vehicle was moving against the light.
The SUV traveled about 150 feet down an embankment after the crash, and it came to rest against a fence around train tracks in the area. Two occupants of that SUV were flown to a hospital in critical condition. An individual in the truck was transported by ground to a hospital, and specific information about the severity of that person’s injuries were not immediately clear.
Trains with FrontRunner and Union Pacific were briefly stopped in the area as medical units responded. Southbound lanes of 1900 West and westbound lanes of Hinckley Drive were shut down as crews responded, and as of about 10:20 p.m. those roads were still closed.
