EMERY COUNTY, Utah – Police personnel recovered the body of a man Thursday who had been reported missing out of Santaquin earlier this week after receiving a tip about the location of the missing man’s vehicle.

According to a press release from the Emery County Sheriff’s Office, 71-year-old Larry Burnett of Santaquin left his home Sunday, and an attempt to locate was issued for the man on Wednesday.

Emery County Sheriff’s Office officials received call Thursday morning about the man’s vehicle, which was located at the Horse Canyon Rest Area in Emery County. Personnel began a ground search and a helicopter from the Utah Highway Patrol was brought in to assist.

At about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, personnel located the man’s body just north of the rest area. An update from police issued later in the day stated the attempt to locate that was issued, “…indicated that the missing man was possibly suicidal. However, when the body was recovered, there were no visible signs of trauma. The body of Larry Burnett has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine cause of death.”

FOX 13 News does not generally report on incidents that appear to be an act of suicide unless the story has a larger impact on the public, such as a search operation by authorities.

FOX 13 News will have more information as it becomes available.
