CEDAR CITY, Utah - A man's best friend is in the doghouse after it allegedly crashed a car into a southern Utah store over the weekend.

Kent Mitchell, the owner of DNC Ammo & Gun, 520 S. Main Street, said he got the call from his alarm company just after 10 a.m.

A vehicle crossed Main Street and crashed into the building. The sole occupant was a German shepherd, according to Cedar City police.

The owner of the dog told officers he left his pet in the car for just a few minutes. It was enough time for the dog to get the car out of park.

“I don’t know if the dog knocked it in neutral or put it in gear,” Mitchell said. “But from what I understand the dog was the only one in the car when it went for its ride.”

The damage to the building was minimal, with a pole knocked down and just some scrapes on the siding. Police say there were no injuries, which is surprising given the car crossed Main Street.

Officer Justin Ludlow said the dog ran when officers got there, but it was quickly captured by the owner.

Ludlow said there were no citations issued in the case.

No one was injured and officials said the damage appears minimal.

So far, no one has been ticketed.
