Man arrested for date rape in Utah County

Posted

OREM, Utah – Officials have arrested a man accused of date rape in Utah County.

A 20-year-old woman called Draper Police to report the crime back on Feb. 25.

She told officers she thought she was raped in the Draper/Salt Lake City area but authorities determined the alleged incident happened at the Wolverine Crossing Apartments in Orem.

Officers said the victim said she met the suspect, 27-year-old Monsour Alshammari, at work.

She said they started to exchange text messages and decided to go on a date.

The victim told authorities she and Alshammari stopped at a Salt Lake City coffee shop on Feb. 24 but it was closed.

She said they stopped at a liquor store and then went to his apartment.

Police said the victim told them she tried to leave the apartment at some point but was there a couple of hours before the suspect took her home.

Authorities later interviewed Alshammari and got enough evidence to search his apartment.

He was booked into the Utah County Jail on first-degree felony rape and second-degree felony obstruction of justice.
