SALT LAKE CITY — A man was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after he was shot in the ankle early Saturday morning in Salt Lake City.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., a 30-year-old man was riding his bicycle in the area of 1200 West and 500 North when two men in a maroon four-door car pulled up next to him and stopped, according to Salt Lake City police.

Police say the suspects demanded money.

When the victim told the men he had no money, the passenger of the vehicle allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the bicyclist in the right ankle.

The victim told police he did not know either of the men but investigators are still working to determine a motive.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
