SANDY, Utah – It was 7 months between the announcement of the team and their home opener, and Wednesday RSL’s minor league club, the Real Monarchs, strapped on the shinguards for the home crowd for the first time.

The team was hosting Portland Timbers 2 at Rio Tinto, their temporary home, and they came away from the game with their second tie of the season.

The RSL Monarchs were down a goal during the first half when they got a break. Ricardo Velazco was tripped up trying to turn the corner, and a yellow card gave them a free kick.

Velazco hit with the breath-taking cross for a crashing Justin Glad, who was there to head the ball in at the right time. That was the Monarch's only goal of the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Real Monarchs play next on April 11, when they will host the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Rio Tinto Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. The Monarchs are 0-1-2 so far this season.
