BRIGHAM CITY, Utah -- Police responded to a residence in Brigham City Wednesday afternoon after a man called 911 and reported that he had killed his ex-wife.
Chief Mike Nelsen, Brigham City Police Department, said the alleged murder occurred at an apartment located at 691 South 600 East in Brigham City Wednesday afternoon during a domestic dispute between a divorced couple.
Police say 20-year-old Spencer Gerlach called 911 at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and said he had stabbed his ex-wife to death, and when authorities arrived they found the man waiting for them. Keltsie Gerlach, 19, was dead in the living room with stab wounds.
Nelsen said the couple had recently gotten divorced and that Keltsie Gerlach lived at the apartment alone with her daughter, a 15-month-old girl. It wasn't clear why Spencer Gerlach was at the apartment Wednesday. Police said they have not been called to that residence previously, and neighbors tell FOX 13 News Keltsie Gerlach had moved in only recently.
The 15-month-old girl was found in a crib at the residence and was unharmed. The child was taken by personnel with the Division of Child and Family Services.
Gerlach was arrested and booked into the Box Elder County Jail, and he faces a charge of first-degree murder.
