SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Highway Patrol has reopened southbound I-15 in Salt Lake City after a series of crashes and dangerous road conditions forced them to close a 10 block stretch of the freeway Thursday morning.
The southbound lanes of I-15 between 600 N and 400 S had been closed while crews worked on cleaning up the accidents, which were exacerbated by black ice.
UHP urges drivers to use extra caution in slick road conditions.
"All we'd ask is that people slow down, realize that even though the roads just look wet, most likely they're icy," said Sgt. Steven Manful, UHP.
Later Thursday, UHP officials said they responded to a total of 42 crashes in Salt Lake County and that there were injuries in 14 of the incidents.
