PROVO, Utah — Opening arguments are underway in the murder trial of a Draper teen involved in the fatal shooting of Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cory Wride.

Meagan Grunwald, 18, is suspected of driving the getaway car for her boyfriend, 27-year-old Jose Angel Garcia-Juaregui, in January 2014 when the fatal shooting occurred.

He died in a shootout with police after shooting and killing Wride and wounding Deputy Greg Sherwood.

Grunwald’s defense claims she was forced by Juaregui at gunpoint to get behind the wheel that day. She was 17 at the time of the shooting.

Grunwald faces an aggravated murder charge and several other felony charges.
