LOS ANGELES (CNN) — A Union Pacific freight train made an unscheduled stop Wednesday after the conductor saw someone who appeared to jump off one of the cars, a spokesman with the Los Angeles police said.
The conductor was leery about the the person’s actions and found a container near where the individual ran away, Sgt Wes Albin said.
It was a cylinder that held the manifest for the cargo on the train, Albin said.
Authorities determined there was no threat and the train’s crew prepared to resumed their journey.
Originally, police had said they were investigating a possible explosive device on the train.
The train wasn’t hauling any explosives or hazardous material, an official with the the Federal Railroad Administration told CNN.
CNN affiliate KTLA reported the train had stopped in Sylmar, near Interstate 5 and Interstate 210.
