PROVO, Utah -- The Monteverde sisters do more than just look alike. They're among a group of Cougars that have qualified for the West Regionals next week in Texas. Alyssa and her identical twin Anginae compete in different events. Alyssa qualified in the 100-meter hurdle, with Anginae on the pole vault.
The pair grew up competing for Clovis West High School in Fresno, California before being recruited by national track and field power, Oregon and the home of Nike.
But after a year or two, both had a change of heart and left Eugene for Provo. Anginae transferred first after her freshman season, before selling Alyssa on BYU as well--who left after her sophomore year. Both are currently top 15 regionally in their selective events.
