TOOELE, Utah -- The Tooele Police Department has released footage taken from the body camera of an officer who shot and killed a pit bull last month.
The shooting incident occurred on the morning of May 22 in the backyard of a home at 205 E. Broadway Street.
According to a news release, police responded to the home after a neighbor called to report a domestic disturbance. When the officer arrived, he observed a woman screaming on the back porch. As seen in the video, the officer calls for the woman to come and talk to him.
"As the officer called out to the female, a large dog attacked the officer without warning and bit his hand," the news release said.
At that point, the officer shot and killed the dog.
The officer went to Mountain West Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Police said John Isolampi, the dog's owner, faces charges of assault related to the alleged domestic violence incident.
