LAYTON, Utah -- A fight between two brothers and their mother resulted in a stabbing Friday morning.
Lt. Travis Lyman from the Layton Police Department said police responded to Quail Cove Apartments, 2090 N Hill Field Rd., just before 7:30 after receiving a report of a domestic dispute.
At one point during the dispute, the mother ran to a neighbor's house and the suspect followed her.
The suspect then kicked in the door of the neighbor's house, Lyman said, and a struggle continued. The neighbor was eventually stabbed in the chest and she was flown to University Hospital in critical condition.
Another neighbor who heard the commotion spoke to FOX 13 about what she saw.
"I went down and saw the lady who had gotten stabbed sitting on the steps. Her shirt was just covered in blood. And then I saw the neighbor, whose son had stabbed her, and she was freaking out and she was sitting on the stairs like hyperventilating, saying 'my son did it, my son did it.'," said Jerica Tooke, a witness.
A 29-year-old man was taken to a hospital for a leg injury and he will be booked into jail. The suspect will likely face several charges, including aggravated assault. Police are looking into whether drugs or mental illness played a role.
