Utah man arrested for kidnapping, firing gun after incident at restaurant

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – An incident originally reported as an aggravated robbery at a West Valley City business ended with one man arrested for aggravated kidnapping and discharge of a firearm.

West Valley City police were called to Chicken Express, 2836 S. 5600 West, at about 1:45 p.m.

According to West Valley City Police,  the suspect, 21-year-old Herndon Konelio, went inside the restaurant with a weapon.

Konelio allowed customers and employees to leave.

Officers were then able to get Konelio to peacefully surrender.

No one was injured.

Authorities found a handgun at the scene.

A bullet hole was visible in the restaurant window, according to a police tweet.

Investigators confirmed Konelio fired two rounds during the incident.
