LDS Church announces funeral services for President Boyd K. Packer

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Funeral services for Boyd K. Packer, President of the LDS Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will be held July 10 at 11 a.m. in the Tabernacle on Temple Square, and the funeral will be open to all members of the public 8 years old and over.

Packer died Friday in Salt Lake City at age 90 due to causes, “incident to age,” according to the LDS Church.

According to a press release from the LDS Church issued Saturday, the gates to Temple Square, 50 North Temple in Salt Lake City, and the doors to the Tabernacle will open at 9:30 a.m. Those who wish to attend “should be in their seats by 10:30 a.m.”

Overflow seating will be available in the Assembly Hall and the North Visitor’s Center on Temple Square.

The LDS Church campus buildings will be closed at 10:30 a.m. and will reopen after the funeral at 1 p.m.

A private burial service in Brigham City, where Packer was born, will be held after the funeral.

The press release states: “There will be no public viewing, but expressions of sympathy can be posted on President Packer’s official Facebook page or emailed to condolences@ldschurch.org.”
