WELLSVILLE, Utah – A 17-year-old girl suffered fatal injuries after she reportedly jumped out of a truck that was travelling at about freeway speeds on State Route 23 Wednesday night.

Lt. Lee Perry of the Utah Highway Patrol confirms to FOX 13 News the girl’s father was driving the truck, which was traveling close to freeway speeds when the girl opened the door and jumped out.

Perry said the girl’s father had picked her up from a friend’s house and that they were arguing. He said the father didn’t have time to react and said they don’t believe the girl was attempting to kill herself.

The girl was hit by the truck after leaving the vehicle, and despite efforts to revive her by bystanders she suffered fatal injuries. Perry said the girl’s father has been cooperating with investigators and he referred to the incident as a tragedy.

The name of those involved have not been released.
