PAROWAN, Utah – A Parowan man is dead after a police officer shot him during an incident Thursday night.
According to Cedar City Police Sgt. Jimmy Roden, a Parowan officer was on the 800 W. block of 200 S. at about 9 p.m.
A witness called the officer over after seeing a man strike a child in the face.
The officer saw the suspect in the driveway of the home and said the man pointed a handgun at him and allegedly approached him in an aggressive manner
The officer fired his gun, hitting the man twice.
Despite the efforts of emergency crews, the man passed away.
Police are not releasing his name at this time.
The Iron County critical incident task force is now investigating the shooting.
