TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Organizers of Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats announced the event was canceled, Monday, due to lack of salt.
This is the second year in a row that the event was canceled. Last year it was called off because the flats were too wet.
According to a statement from The Southern California Timing Association, the most salt officials could find was 2 1/4 miles of salt suitable for a safe race course.
“The rest of the salt flats are either wet or wet and muddy,” the release states. “If the wet salt gets dry, future events could be possible.”
