SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Highway Patrol is seeking the public’s help in locating a hit-and-run driver.

Just after midnight Tuesday, a motorist hit a person a motorcycle on Interstate 215 just north of California Avenue, according to Utah Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike, which got caught on the car. The driver drove about three miles with bike still attached and eventually dumped it in an industrial area near 500 South and 2400 West, according to UHP.

The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and protective gear during the accident. Troopers say the gear likely helped save his life.

Witnesses who saw the motorist abandon the bike say it looked like a Dodge Intrepid.

Part of the body of the car was also at the scene, which was a bronze color and missing a headlight.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Utah Highway Patrol at 801-887-3800.
