SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is asking the public for help locating a fugitive who is wanted for felony aggravated assault and felony riot in connection with a shooting that occurred June 29.

According to a press release from SLC PD, 20-year-old Raul Contreras should be considered armed and dangerous, and anyone who sees him is urged to contact police at 801-799-3000. Authorities urge the public not to approach the man should they see him.

The fugitive, pictured above, is described as being a Hispanic male who stands 5-feet, 11-inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. The man has black hair and brown eyes.

The man is wanted in connection with an incident that occurred around 11:22 p.m. June 29 at an apartment in the vicinity of 1601 West 400 South. According to a police watch log, a man in an apartment went outside after hearing a commotion and confronted several males. An argument ensued, and the men outside began to shoot at the man from the apartment, who suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

The man who was shot returned fire with his own gun, according to the watch log, and the suspects fled the area in a gray Chevy Impala. Police stated at that time they believed the suspects have gang connections.
