Two injured in WVC after suspect fires on van during road rage incident

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Two people suffered injuries after an alleged road rage incident escalated to a shooting where the suspect fired shots at a van carrying a family of six Thursday evening.

Roxeanne Vainuku, a public information officer for West Valley City Police Department, said the incident occurred in the vicinity of 3100 South and Bangerter Highway around 5:50 p.m.

Vainuku said the suspect fired shots at a van with a family of six inside as the van was attempting to turn left. The suspect vehicle passed by, with the man inside firing shots as he passed.The suspect continued traveling west after the shooting.

A 19-year-old female was shot in the leg and a male juvenile also suffered a gunshot wound. Both injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.  The family drove straight to a hospital to seek treatment.

Police said they are searching for a male suspect believed to be in his 30s or 40s who was driving a dark gray or flat black, 4-door sedan with red rims and a red spoiler. The man is described as appearing to be either Hispanic or Polynesian.
