University of Utah releases rules for those camping out for College GameDay

SALT LAKE CITY — The day after ESPN College GameDay announced they would be in Salt Lake City next week for the No.5 Utes‘ game vs No. 23 Cal , the University of Utah released details about the event and rules regarding those who plan to camp out in order to secure their spot.

According to a press release from University of Utah, College GameDay will feature a variety of shows airing from Presidents Circle at the school’s campus starting Friday at 10 a.m. and continuing through Saturday. The events will feature a “carnival-like atmosphere with sponsors…. offering promotional items, food sampling, games and a sign-making competition.”

ESPN announced they would be coming to Salt Lake Cityin a video posted Saturday. College GameDay has been to Salt Lake City previously in 2004 and in 2010.

ESPN will begin broadcasting shows from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. MT Friday, and a live show is scheduled from noon to 12:30, according to the press release.

The press release states that beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, overnight camping will be permitted in Presidents Circle, but all camping gear must be cleared from the area by 4 a.m. Saturday. Fans will be admitted to the GameDay site beginning at 4:30 a.m., and the first 300 people will get a spot in “the pit” located right next to the set.

“While signs are encouraged, fans should be aware that prohibited items include projectiles, signs on sticks, food or drink, backpacks or purses,” the press release states.

The press release provides further details relating to tailgating and parking, see below for details.

“People with Crimson Club tailgate passes may begin parking in the Guardsman Way lot at 10 p.m. Friday or when the lot is cleared. Fans with the proper parking pass who choose to camp in other lots around campus may begin setting up after 6 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday morning, there will be free parking for the general public in the Merrill Engineering lot and fans are encouraged to arrive at the GameDay grounds on Presidents Circle by 5 a.m. for the start of the live hits.

The ESPN College GameDay show will air from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. and will feature hosts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Sam Ponder and David Pollack.
