WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - One of the Metro Gang Unit's top 10 most-wanted fugitives who has evaded authorities for about two months is now in custody.
Authorities arrested 24-year-old Steven Hammer in West Valley City Wednesday night after securing a federal arrest warrant.
Officers brought in the US Marshals, agents with Homeland Security and all other resources they could gather in an effort to capture Hammer.
They surrounded a home where he was hiding out in West Valley City near 3500 S. and 4200 W. at about 8 p.m. and were finally able to capture the wanted man.
Police said Hammer was wanted for car theft, home burglaries and stealing firearms and trading them to gang members for cash and drugs.
Hammer has evaded officers numerous times including an incident last week and another time back in August when police spiked his tires but he still managed to get away.
If Hammer is prosecuted and convicted, he will be shipped out of state to a federal prison.
Authorities arrested two other wanted felons when they took Hammer into custody.
Their identities have not been confirmed at this time.
