Local woman reunited with beloved ‘Tank’ more than a year after animal disappeared

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- A special reunion is serving as a good reminder to pet owners about the importance of microchipping their animals.

Tank, a Chihuahua, disappeared in August of last year and hadn’t been seen by her owner since.

Last week, the dog was picked up as a stray in Taylorsville by West Valley City personnel. Fortunately, Tank’s owner, Carol Lopez, had the dog microchipped and so the animal shelter was able to contact Carol and reunite her with Tank.

Lopez said she encourages all pet owners to consider microchips.

“I strongly advise anybody to get a chip because eventually they're going to end up either at the shelter, or they're going to end up at a vet, and vets also scan,” she said.

Tank is about six years old.
