SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah fought off Cal in Salt Lake City Saturday night, and Sunday the AP Top 25 Poll showed the Utes’ victory over No. 23 Cal was good for advancing a single rank to No. 4.
The Utes were No. 5 last week, and while Ohio State remains No. 1 there was some shuffling between Baylor and TCU, with the Bears moving up one spot to No. 2 while the Horned Frogs slid from the second spot to land at No. 3. Clemson rounds out the top 5, advancing from last week’s rank of 6.
Utah received 16 first place votes, second only to Ohio State, who had 27. Click here for the complete AP Top 25 Poll.
Utah held fast at No. 7 in theAmway Coaches Poll, which lists Ohio State, Baylor, TCU, Michigan State and Louisiana State as the top five in the nation.
Utah, 5-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, takes the field next on October 17, when they will host the Arizona State Sun Devils. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. MST at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Cal’s loss didn’t immediately seem to hurt their standing, as they remained at No. 23 in the AP Poll and moved from 22 to 23 in the Coaches Poll.
