Man injured, suspect still at-large after drive-by shooting in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A man is expected to recover after he was hit by several rounds during a drive-by shooting in West Valley City Thursday night, and police are still searching for the shooter.

It happened just before 10 p.m. Thursday at 5600 West and 2300 South in West Valley City.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 28-year-old man who had been shot multiple times in the upper body. He was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover.

Witnesses told police a group of people got in an argument before one man walked away and then came back in his car and fired three to four shots at the group.

Lt. Mike Christenson of the West Valley City PD said the incident occurred in a wrecking yard area, which he said doesn’t normally see much activity after hours.

“It’s an active area during the day time, after hours we do have some activity out here, but it’s… in recent memory it doesn’t seem like we’ve been out here too much,” he said.

There were no other reports of injuries beyond the one victim.

Police are still investigating whether or not the group knew each other before the confrontation, but they said they don’t have much to go on at this point.

The suspect fled the area in a newer, four-door vehicle described as possibly being a Chrysler 300.
