EMERY COUNTY, Utah — Authorities are working to identify the body of a woman found washed up from the Green River in Emery County Thursday afternoon.

The body was discovered by a man floating down the river. He told dispatch he noticed a “very decomposed body on the west side of the river,” according to a press release from Emery County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to Green River State Park and found the body on a sandbar about a mile south of the bridge where Interstate 70 crosses the Green River.
It was unclear if the body was male or female at the time and there were only animal tracks discovered around the area.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office was able to determine the body was that of a woman between the ages of 50 and 65. Detectives and the medical examiner are still working to determine the cause of death, circumstances surrounding the death and the woman’s identity.
The State Crime Lab is assisting in the investigation.
