WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – A suspect and a West Valley City officer are recovering after a chase ended on a home’s roof with the officer falling to the ground.
Authorities said the chase started early Tuesday morning when officers were called to a gas station near 4000 W. and 4100 S. about a “suspicious man” who wouldn’t leave.
Officers tried to talk to the man but he ran away.
Police chased the suspect through an area under construction and somehow onto a roof of a single-story home.
The suspect told officers he had a grenade but police didn’t find any weapons on him.
Officers said the suspect tried to get into the home by tearing out vents and grates which he also threw at officers.
During the struggle, an officer fell from the roof.
The officer was checked at the hospital as a precaution and is expected to recover.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is still in the hospital and will be booked into jail when he is released.
