SALT LAKE CITY — The lockdown at the Salt Lake County jail has been lifted Monday after an inmate assaulted an officer early Friday morning.

Sgt. Cammie Skogg, Salt Lake County Jail, stated in an email that the jail has been on lockdown since about 2 a.m. Friday morning, “due to three separate incidents involving staff.”

Skogg stated that an officer was assaulted by a prisoner Friday morning, and the officer was sent to a hospital with minor head and neck injuries.

Before the lockdown associated with the assault was lifted, a nurse was “scraped by a cuffport when a prisoner pushed it open unexpectedly. A couple of hours later, another officer was spit on by a prisoner.”

Skogg stated that the three events are not related, but she said the commanders have chosen to remain on lockdown until Monday so they can meet with the others involved and evaluate each incident.
