CUMMING, Ga. -- A woman in Cumming, Georgia, is free on bond after police say she posted a Craiglist ad seeking a baby for her 14-year-old daughter.
For 12 days, the ad asked that anyone with an unwanted baby leave the child in a so-called "Baby Box."
The daughter had already outfitted a room with a crib and plenty of baby supplies.
The local sheriff said, at first, the ad was simply unbelievable.
The girl’s mother, 47-year-old Elaine Williams faces charges of trying to adopt a child illegally. Her daughter may face juvenile charges.
The family insists the ad was meant only to offer help to struggling mothers who felt they couldn’t support their babies.
The girl's father says a few people responded to the ad, but their offers were all scams.
