SALT LAKE CITY — Intermountain Healthcare is giving a grant of $500,000 to help in the effort to end homelessness in Utah, and the grant was accepted Wednesday by Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams.
McAdams said the money will go toward getting people healthy and back on their feet, and he said addressing health issues is the first step in getting those who are homeless back into the community.
“This grant will help with, the focus is on the people who are in crisis, get them the critical services they need, because being healthy is a necessary prerequisite to having a job, to being able to pay your own rent, and to provide for your families,” McAdams said.
Mayor McAdams says this gift comes at a crucial time, as all who are a part of the homelessness initiative request money from the Utah legislature to help fund new emergency shelters.
