WEST JORDAN, Utah — Police in West Jordan responded to a residence where at least one shot was fired Saturday night, and officials at the scene said a woman was shot in the foot after she intervened to prevent a man from killing himself.

Dispatch officials confirmed to FOX 13 News that officers responded to the area of 7200 South Paddington Road in West Jordan regarding a shooting. FOX 13 News first heard reports of the incident just before 9 p.m.

Police at the scene said a man who was suicidal was holding a gun when a woman  entered the residence and saw him with the gun and threatening self-harm. She tried to tell the man not to hurt himself and took action to knock the weapon away from his control.

After she did so, the weapon discharged and the woman was struck in the foot. Authorities said the injury is not believed to be life-threatening.

FOX 13 News does not generally report on incidents involving suicidal individuals, unless there is a greater impact to the public, such as in the case of a bystander suffering injury.

FOX 13 News has a crew at the scene, and we will update this story as more information becomes available.
