SANDY, Utah — Sandy Fire Department officials suspect arson was involved in a fire late Thursday night at an abandoned home.
Fire crews arrived shortly after midnight and found the one-story house, which is nearby Rio Tinto Stadium, engulfed in flames.
“Based on the nature of the fire, though, we are treating it as suspicious,” said Chris Dawson, Battalion Chief for the Sandy Fire Department.
Dawson said the house had been boarded up and it had no utilities. It took about an hour for fire crews to get the fire under control.
“We were defensive, fighting from the exterior the entire time. There was no value inside this structure and it was well involved in fire before we got here, so we stayed outside to protect our firefighters,” Dawson said.
No injuries were reported.
