SANDY, Utah – A 22-year-old skier was caught, partially buried and injured in a large avalanche at Holy Toledo Tuesday afternoon.

Officials said the avalanche was on a steep northwest slope about 10,200 ft. in Cardiff in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Unified officers said the skier has back and leg injuries.

Authorities said they believe the skier was taken up the mountain by helicopter, Powderbird, and dropped off out-of-bounds.

Powerbird’s website states, “Our helicopters will drop you off above 9,000′.  But expect your excitement to soar much higher.”

Crews are working to rescue the skier at this time.
