PARK CITY, Utah - Deputies are trying to track down thieves who stole about $300,000 worth of sunglasses from the Sunglass Hut at the Tanger Outlet.
It turns out detectives in Summit County are now working with other police agencies because it appears Sunglass Huts are being targeted across the country.
The heist in Summit County happened sometime between 9 p.m. on Jan. 16 and 10 a.m. on Jan. 17.
Officers said when the manager showed up to open the store, it was essentially empty.
Authorities said nearly 1,500 pairs of glasses were gone with an estimated worth of about $300,000.
Since then, detectives have learned there have been more than a dozen similar burglaries at Sunglass Hut stores across the country.
The alarm system to the store was cut and with easy access to I-80, police said they fear the suspects are now long gone with a treasure trove of nearly untraceable and easy-to-sell items.
Detectives are reviewing security video from around the outlet mall in hopes of finding a tip that leads to the suspects.
