Man driving stolen vehicle evades police in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY — Police personnel set up a containment in the area of 4500 South and Bangerter Highway Sunday night as they searched for a suspect who fled in a stolen vehicle, but the man escaped after abandoning the vehicle and striking out on foot.

Lt. Dalan Taylor, West Valley City Police Department, said an officer spotted the stolen vehicle in the area of 3100 South and 4000 West and officers tried to make a traffic stop. FOX 13 News first heard report of the incident around 8 p.m.

The suspect fled, and police did not pursue but were able to maintain surveillance on the car. The driver abandoned the vehicle near a church in the vicinity of 4500 South and Bangerter and fled on foot.

Taylor said police  set up a containment around the area and were searching for the individual with the assistance of K9s. Shortly after 9 p.m., police cleared the area after failing to locate the suspect.
