MURRAY, Utah - SWAT personnel have surrounded a residence in Murray Sunday night after a woman's boyfriend forced his way into her home and then fired shots at police who responded to the scene.
FOX 13 News first heard reports of shots fired shortly after 8 p.m. in the area of 584 West Winchester St. in Murray.
Murray police confirmed around 9:45 p.m. that things began when a man forced his way into his girlfriend's residence. Police were called, and when officers arrived that man fired shots at police. No injuries were reported.
"As officers arrived, an individual by the house, or coming out of the house, fired gunshots at one of the officers and then went back in the house," said Officer Kenny Bass of the Murray Police Department.
The girlfriend and another adult who was inside the home have made it safely outside, but the man who allegedly fired at police remains in the home. Police have yet to make contact with that man.
Winchester Street has been shut down in the vicinity, and police are asking residents and drivers to avoid the area. Those who live nearby are asked to stay inside their homes.
