SALT LAKE CITY -- The 22nd ranked Utah basketball team started the game against Arizona State on a 15-0 run, and they followed that up with another 15-0 run to build a commanding 30-2 lead over the Sun Devils.
The Utes went on to beat Arizona State 81-46.
Jordan Loveridge made his first three 3-pointers to get the Utes going. The senior guard finished with 14 points.
Brekkott Chapman finished with 16, Brandon Taylor scored 12, and Dakarai Tucker added 10 in the rout.
Head coach Larry Krystkowiak liked how his team kept playing, despite the big lead.
"We were still taking charges at the end of the game,” Krystkowiak said. “We took a lot of pride in playing hard. There is one way to play the game, and a way that I try to describe it is respect the game. Treat it right. Good things happen when you stay focused that way.”
The Utes are now 22-7, and 11-5 in the Pac-12 standings. That has them just a half-game behind Oregon for first place, with two games to play in the regular season.
The Utes host 9th-ranked Arizona on Saturday in Salt Lake City at noon.
