WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — West Valley City police have found the Jeep Grand Cherokee that belonged to a woman who died after she was severely beaten late last month.
Hope Gabaldon, 21, was found badly injured on the side of the road in the area of 3100 S 4000 S on the night of February 25. Medical personnel treated her at the scene and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she died.
West Valley City police asked for the public’s help in locating Gabaldon’s vehicle, as they consider it a critical component in the investigation. An officer located the Jeep in the parking lot of an apartment complex near 4000 W 4100 S.
Investigators identified 26-year-old Sergio Briseno Medina, an acquaintance of Gabaldon’s, as a person of interest in the case. Medina has been taken into custody in Denver and the West Valley City Police Department is working with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office to extradite him back to Utah.
Medina has not been charged in connection with the homicide.
