SOUTHERN UTAH — A climber was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday afternoon after a fall at Zion National Park.
According to a press release from park officials, the climber was ascending a 1,200-foot route known as “Moonlight Buttress”, and the popular technical route is on the west side of the canyon.
Two other climbers in the area witnessed the fall around 12:30 p.m. and called park rangers, who located the fallen individual at the base of the route. The climber was pronounced dead at the scene.
Zion National Park and the Washington County Medical Examiner’s Office are working to confirm the climber’s identity and notify his or her family.
The fall is being investigated by park officials in conjunction with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
